Dear IC Forum members, here are some preliminary results from our survey on ICT for energy-efficient logistics.
Most relevant functionalities for new ICT developments (Rank 1 to 5; 1 least significant):
- Seamless information flow through the entire supply chain (38% ranked 5);
- Information on cargo status, e.g.: temperature, humidity control level (20% ranked 5 also same percentage ranked 4);
- Information on delays, rescheduling, traffic information, re-routing (26% ranked 5 and 23% ranked 4);
- Active fuel management. (26% ranked 4).
Barriers to adoption of ICT for Energy Efficiency (Rank 1 to 5; 1 least significant):
- Difficult to calculate the return on investment. (29% ranked 4)
- Cost of system integration. (29% ranked 4)
- Key customers and suppliers will not be interested paying more for the increased service (29% ranked 5).
Criteria used by the organizations to decide upon the implementation of new technology (Rank 1 to 5; 1 least significant):
- Costs (35% ranked 5, 23% ranked 4).
- Time (32% ranked 4).
- Know-how in house (26% ranked 4).
- Return on investment within 2 years (20% ranked 4).
- Competitive advantage (26% ranked 5 and similar percentage raked 4).
- Public opinion (23% ranked 4).
- Customer opinion (35% ranked 4).
- Legislative change (29% ranked 4).
The Logistic for Life requirement survey is still running, but these intermediate results show some interesting points, which we will consider in the further development of the Logistic for Life ativities.
