Sustainability Solutions Collection

The Sustainability Solutions Collection of the Logistics for LIFE project collects information and material of the Best Practice Solutions and highlights their impact on environmental, economic and social sustainability.

The Collection is accessible through two different viewpoints.

The L4LIFE viewpoint follows the logic of the L4L objectives: room is given to the solutions that do or aim at improving the economic, environmental and social sustainability of transport logistics processes. The basis for this criterion lays in a set of indicators that are required to be applicable both for evaluation and comparison of solutions, i.e.:

  • evaluate solutions' impact on the social, economic, environmental sustainability
  • possibly quantify (and compare) the impact from different solutions.

The Common Scenario viewpoint presents the solutions through a map of problems solved thanks to their application. A scenario is created, by supposing that a specific logistic task or set of tasks is to be accomplished and by introducing a number of plausible contingencies that provoke delays and problems to their fulfillment. The solutions are directly linked to specific steps of the transport process and to the hazards normally met and faced during its accomplishment. Every time an instance diverts the expected flow of events, a best practice solution is proposed along with the effects of its application to the considered situation.
The scenario is presented as a map of solutions in the following picture. By clicking over any step of the route you are redirected to a description of the step and of the way every solution overcomes it, in the "Common Scenario route step by step" page.

Both viewpoints provide access to the dedicated solutions sheets, by simply clicking on the solution names. These sheets collect information about every solution: impact on sustainability, areas of adoption in the logistics supply chain, functions, pilot activities that tested it, technologies adopted in the solution, documentation, information about the project that delivered it and the reference contact. All these data reproduce information collected in the L4LIFE Knowledge Base.
